Ambassador Mette graces the launch of TASLE 2023
Denmark supports TASLE2023 through its co-funding with Sweden of the Agricultural Markets Development Trust (AMDT)

Full speech by the Ambassador of Denmark in Tanzania, H.E. Mette Dissing-Spandet on the occasion to launch the 2023 Tanzania Agriculture Stakeholders Learning Event (TASLE). The forum was held in Dodoma City:

Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Hussein Bashe

Representatives from the Ministry of Industry and Trade,

Development partners, Ladies and gentlemen,

Good morning,

It is truly an honor to join you virtually as the Ambassador of Denmark in Tanzania at this momentous occasion—the Tanzania Agriculture Stakeholders Learning Event 2023. I extend my warmest greetings to each and every one of you, distinguished guests, partners, and stakeholders who have gathered here to celebrate and collaborate on the theme “Connect, Sustain, and Scale Innovations in Agriculture Market systems.” Before we delve into the heart of today’s discussions, allow me to express my deepest gratitude to the organizers, the Agricultural Markets Development Trust (AMDT), for their unwavering commitment and dedication.

For the past eight years, our Embassy has had the privilege of supporting AMDT with a budget of 58 Billion TZS. Currently, Sweden and Denmark are supporting AMDT in its work to develop and strengthen market systems in selected agricultural value chains here in Tanzania. The progress and impact of this collaboration are indeed commendable, and I want to applaud the entire AMDT team for their hard work and dedication.

Today’s event underscores the importance of connecting, sustaining, and scaling innovations in agriculture market systems— an endeavour that aligns seamlessly with our shared vision for a more prosperous and sustainable Tanzania. The strides made in the agricultural sector in Tanzania are a testament to the concerted efforts of various stakeholders, and I am thrilled to witness the positive transformations taking place.

On that note, I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to the government of Tanzania for showcasing serious determination towards improving the agriculture sector. The substantial increase in the budget allocated to the sector this financial year reflects a commendable commitment to fostering growth and development. It is through such collaborative efforts that we can truly make a lasting impact on the lives of those who depend on agriculture for their livelihoods.

I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate the diverse array of stakeholders present here today, and those beyond these virtual walls, who are actively contributing to the betterment of the agricultural sector. Your dedication to innovation, investment, and collaboration is paving the way for a more sustainable and resilient agricultural landscape in Tanzania.

In some recent and joyous news, I am pleased to highlight the news that most of you may have heard already: that the Government of Denmark has decided to reverse its decision to close the Embassy in Tanzania. Instead, we are resolute in our commitment to continue the long and fruitful cooperation between our two nations. This decision reflects the enduring friendship and the belief in the potential of Tanzania’s growth and development, particularly in the agricultural sector. We look forward to strengthening our ties even further and continuing to work hand in hand towards shared goals.

Even though it has not been possible for me to travel to Dodoma and participate physically, technology has made it possible for me to still be part of this event virtually. This underscores the power of technology in connecting us across distances, allowing us to collaborate and share ideas despite the challenges posed by physical constraints.

As you embark on today’s discussions, I encourage you to keep in mind that together, we can overcome challenges, seize opportunities, and build a resilient agricultural sector that not only sustains communities but also propels Tanzania towards a brighter and more prosperous future. Thank you, and I wish you all a fruitful and inspiring Tanzania Agriculture Stakeholders Learning Event 2023.

Asante sana!
